Phonemic speed
Why is this important? If we look at the latin phrase ”in vino veritas“ we can see that there is a lot of variation in level between the phonemes. The vowel e has greater amplitude than the soft consonant t. In this case, the soft t needs more amplifi cation than the vowel e in order to make it audible. If the amplifi cation is not applied at phonemic speed then these rapid variations in the speech signal are ignored and may be misinterpreted by the wearer.
