The key development competences in Bern include:

Electroacoustics

The electroacoustic capacity of wave converters such as microphones and receivers  (loudspeakers) are calculated and tested by physicists and electro-engineers. The integration of IC chips and other components needs to be planned carefully.

Audiology

Audiological research is specifically targeted at improving speech intelligibility and listening comfort in difficult listening situations (noise, background interference). The most modern fitting algorithms, developed in cooperation with the National Acoustics Laboratories (NAL) in Australia and others, represent the basis of Bernafon's hearing systems. An experienced psychoacoustics team of audiologists and DSP engineers is responsible for creating the audiological concepts and the definition of the algorithms for the digital signal processing.

Construction and Design

The aesthetic prerequisites for a hearing instrument have increased. They have become an important factor in choosing a hearing system. Bernafon's designers and engineers take this requirement into account when they develop hearing systems that combine attractive design with microtechnical and mechanical components that function at the highest level of precision.

Fitting software

Bernafon develops the fitting software for all hearing systems with a team of experienced engineers and audiologists. Bernafon hearing systems can be fitted easily, fast and accurately to the individual hearing loss. The software modules are continously tested and verified in close cooperation with hearing care professionals around the world.
