As you become used to wearing your hearing aids, they can be used in more challenging listening situations and for longer periods. Here are some tips for difficult listening situations:
Always use your hearing aids. Keep eye contact during conversations. Avoid background noise when possible.
Focus on the person nearest you. Keep eye contact during conversations. Repeat what you have heard and ask for any missing information.
When dining out, request a table in a quiet area away from the kitchen. When attending the theater, lectures, concerts or movies, inquire if a loop, infrared or FM system is available.
It's important to keep your hearing aids clean. Wipe them regularly with a dry cloth or tissue. It is also important to remove ear wax as this may cause temporary malfunction or in the worst case complete breakdown of your equipment.
Avoid getting your hearing aids wet (e.g. wearing them in the shower
or heavy rain). If your hearing aids are exposed to moisture or very humid
conditions, remove the batteries and place the hearing aids in a dry storage kit.
Never use a hair dryer or microwave oven to attempt to dry them.
Aftershave lotion, hairspray, oils and perfume contain chemicals which can have detrimental effects on your hearing aids. Always remove your hearing aids before applying such products and allow time for the product to dry before putting your hearing aids back on.
Your hearing aids should never be exposed to extreme heat. Do not leave them in the glove compartment of your car.
Even though you are familiar with your hearing aid, you may face some problems in daily use. Here are some tips and tricks for common problems:
